"Excellent Orthopaedic care on children's ward"

About: Norfolk & Norwich University Hospital

Anything else?

My 9 year old son broke his leg (tibia) on holiday, after initially attending the Minor Injuries Unit at Cromer Hospital and we were referred on to Norwich Hospital as the break was complex. As as soon as we arrived on the Buxton ward we were greeted by the nursing staff and then doctors from the Orthopaedic Team, who had planned his treatment. The doctor leading on his care was very reassuring and took time to answer questions and explain what would happen. Very quickly we went to the plaster room, the staff again were friendly and funny which helped my son relax. They also showed a very high level of care and gave lots of advice. When we returned to the Buxton ward we stayed overnight and again the nursing staff were friendly and kind and monitored his leg well. Nothing seemed to be too much trouble for the staff. The next morning the physiotherapist was on the ward early to assess him and provide a walking frame to help him to get around. As soon as he was discharged the nurse on duty contacted our GP to enable care to be continued when we returned home. We were impressed by the systems in place to pass on information and plan his care, which meant that our son could be effectively and quickly treated. The attitude and care from the staff was also excellent all the staff we met were exceptionally professional but the main thing that stood out was the friendly way they spoke to us and our son, answering questions and giving reassurance. We would like to thank all the staff who helped us get back to our holiday!

We are pleased that you and your son had a good experience at both our hospitals. A copy of your feedback has also been passed onto Buxton Ward. Hope you son's leg is on the mend.

We are pleased to hear that you and your son had such a good experience both at Cromer Hospital and at the NNUH - a copy of your feedback has been passed onto the Sister of Buxton Ward to circulate it to their team. Hope you son's leg is mending well.
