Went up to my boyfriend who had been taken in after being attacked by a group of lads and had sustained clear head injuries, broken nose and was bleeding about 1.30 a.m. I arrived at 2.00 a.m. he had been seen by the triage nurse and was told to wait until called by one of the doctors. We sat in the waiting area for over 5 hours before we were seen! I had to go and re-do parking because of how long it took. Neither of us had had any sleep, no one kept us informed of what was going on. Others were in and out and we were left waiting. When we were eventually seen we were in and out in 10 minutes! Don't understand what took so long to get us in as the people being taken through before us were in and out the same yet in between people coming in and out there was a large delay before someone else was called in. We didn't end up leaving the hospital until 7.15 a.m. and still had to go in work for 8.00 a.m. Thought this was quite shocking considering a lot of the nurses were in and out chatting to each other. Take something entertain yourself if you need to go!! Even the Haywood gets you seen in at most 2 hours!!

Dear Poster,

Thank you for sharing your experience of our Emergency Department. This will enable us to continue our work to improve patient experience.

At times, the department can see extreme peaks of pressure where acutely-ill patients require attention from both the medical and nursing teams. As a result, this can increase waiting times for patients with other, less severe, injuries.

Patients who attend the department are triaged in order of priority which may explain why some patients are required to wait slightly longer for care.

Staff are currently working to ensure waiting times for the department are visible and that details of other services for minor injuries are provided to patients.

I will share your feedback with the team and the department’s patient experience forum in due course.
