"Diagnosis and treatment of ovarian tumour"

About: NHS Rotherham CCG Rotherham Hospital / Gynaecology

(as the patient),

I would like to record my thanks and appreciation to everyone involved in the diagnosis and removal of an ovarian cyst.

My GP, Dr Judith Sanders immediately booked me an ultrasound scan on the Saturday morning after my appointment as I was due to go on holiday 2 days later. The radiologist at The Rotherham Walk in Centre was extremely caring and supportive whilst giving me potentially the worst news possible. My GP telephoned me on the Saturday afternoon to give me the Ultrasound results and to say she would process me into the 2 week fast track process. We had shortened our holiday to return on the Thursday and I was given a GP appointment on the Friday.

I subsequently received an appointment to see Mr Hany Lotfallah's team well within the 2 week scale.

From my first appointment at Greenoaks, Rotherham Hospital I was greeted in a friendly and welcoming way by the reception staff and this approach has been demonstrated at every stage of my treatment.

The consultation at Greenoaks was caring and the registrar recorded all the details but with explanations to me and my husband. She was supported by a very helpful and kind Staff Nurse.

When I went for the pre operation tests the nurse was reassuring and gave me very detailed information which answered all my concerns about the operation and follow up on Ward B11.

The pre admissions staff were again welcoming and dealt with the process in a professional reassuring manner and this was followed up by the pre anaesthetic team.

Even though I was probably not totally aware, the staff in the recovery ward were again excellent and I appreciated the visits from members of the Pain Control team both there and on the ward.

All the staff on B11 offered me caring assistance and re-assurance throughout my stay. All my questions about the operation, results etc were answered helpfully and with as much detail as was possible. I can even say that the food has improved since my previous visits to the hospital in 2007/8.

When I returned home I needed to telephone the ward a couple of times and again received helpful advice and support. Cathy Dawson, Clinic Nurse Specialist has also been very supportive.

So far, six weeks after the operation, I appear to be well and feel the operation has been a success so I thank Mr Lotfallah, his theatre team and everyone in the gynaecology department. My husband and I are delighted that the further discussion about the histology report means that I perhaps have only one more hospital visit in six months time to see you for a check up.

I should be grateful if you could pass on my thanks to all the people concerned in my diagnosis and treatment.

I support the organisation in making sure that the voice of patients and the public is heard and used in planning services. This involves running events, managing surveys, and building networks with the local community.

Dr Judith Sanders has also asked me to post the following:-

"We care about the quality of service we offer and although we don't expect to be thanked for doing our job it certainly feels good to get positive feedback - thank you for taking time to share your experience"
