"Lumbar puncture"

About: Royal Stoke University Hospital / Neurology

(as the patient),

I was the most reluctant of patients, having declined 2 previously offered lumbar punctures (to help facilitate a neurological diagnosis), but ultimately recognised this was needed/really couldn't keep avoiding, regardless of the many "horror stories" about them. The 2nd Neurologist I saw/discussed the need for a LP, had far too good of a "bedside manner", was too approachable, demonstrated too much empathy etc. for me to decline this again, so decided to "bite the bullet"!

After a few minutes of meeting the Nurse Practitioner (? ) who was going to carry out the procedure, discovered there was no "bullet to bite" - now using a atraumatic needle means no csf leakage - therefore no post-procedural headache and as far as pain/discomfort of the actual procedure.......I have had more at the Dentist!

Anyone having a LP on Ward 231 has no need to worry - you will be made to feel as comfortable as possible, valued and respected - I have never experienced better service not observed better practice anywhere!
