My son was admitted for observation at the Bluebell (children's) Ward last week. It is never a nice experience going into hospital, let alone with one of your children, however due to the wonderful people we encountered on the ward, the entire stay was a lot less stressful than I had feared. Every single staff member from the cleaner to the tea lady, the nurses, play specialists and consultants (not to mention the many volunteers) we met, were absolutely wonderful. Their level of care, compassion and understanding of how worrying this situation can be for a parent was beyond compare - and much greater that I had ever dared anticipate. From the moment we were admitted to the moment we left (4 days later) we were taken care of - not just as a matter of duty but with a genuine level of compassion and empathy! I cannot fault the play facilities without which I would have had a seriously difficult time keeping my son entertained and happy and I was genuinely moved by all the staff that - however busy - always had time to smile and encourage the children on the ward. Lister Hospital has a real gem of a ward in Bluebell - don't ruin it (please!)
"Thanks to the wonderful staff at the Bluebell Ward"
