An elderly relative of my partner was hospitalised overnight recently. Don't know the full details or which ward. He buzzed for a nurse during the night as he needed to go to the toilet - so needed a bottle.
When the nurse finally came -he had buzzed a few times and the nurses just ignored him and carried on talking all sat around the station - he was told he couldn't have one, to shut up and go back to sleep. In the end he had to empty a bottle that he had already used and had not been disposed off (good for infection control eh) and reuse said emptied bottle.
He cannot walk unaided and unsteady on his feet at the best of times, and partially sighted. He has not complained because he is in his 80s and really doesn't want the hassle.
What a dignified way to treat anyone let alone some of the most vulnerable people in our community.
