"Lack of empathy"

About: King's Mill Hospital

Anything else?

My mother who is 87 and was suffering severe stomach pains stayed on ward 31 for a week. After a four hour wait for an ambulance she spent over five hours in a side room before seeing a Doctor. Because she also had Shingles she was put in one of the private rooms, this particular room was very isolated and on its own at the end of a corridor. Medical staff do not look in regular enough and although there are alarms by the bed and in the bathroom if you had a fall inbetween you could be waiting there for ages before help came, this room is very large, big enough for two beds with a huge bathroom. Do not get me wrong, some of the staff are great but others should not be in a caring proffession, even after a week some were talking over her and refering to her as "she" rather than by her name. The food menue is very varied and the food was good but often the cutlery was dirty, when we showed one of the so called hospitality staff a dirty knife she just said that she must have already used it and after that did not talk to my mother and was awkward. Going back to the four hour wait for the ambulance, I got to the hospital 20 minutes after but the crew were still there and I spent yet another 20 minutes chatting to them while a side room became available, this is why ambulances take so long the crews are all down at accident and emergency waiting to hand over, the logistics are all wrong. Nice building though !!
