On Monday 15th July 2013 I was booked in to the Endoscopy unit, at St Richards Hospital, Chichester, West Sussex, for a 2.00pm Colonoscopy. However after preparing myself through Saturday and Sunday, at 8.00am on Monday the 15th July my heart went into Artrial Fibrilation. I phoned my G.P. practice in Selsey West Sussex, and received a appointment. I went to see my G.P, who did some tests to check that I was still in A/Fib on confirmation the doctor contacted the Medical Assessment Unit at St Richards Hospital and referred me to a Consultant who agreed to see me. I arrived at A.M.U. at 11.30am. On arrival at A.M.U. I was taken to a side room and a very capable Doctor checked me in, did all the relevant tests, and took the required bloods. The Consultant came to see me and said that he was going to treat me for A/Fib, and at the same time he would discuss with another Consultant and his Endoscopy Team my still having having a Colonoscopy. At 1.45pm I was taken to the Endoscopy Unit were a Colonoscopy was completed. I returned to A.M.U. were my first Consultant advised me that he would treat my A/Fib with a drip for up to 24 hours, and then review the possibility of a D.C. Cardiac Version,( this would not have been the first) however at 4.am Tuesday morning my heart went back into Sinus Rhythm and I was later released from hospital. I have to point out that the cooperation and organisation between A.M.U. and Endoscopy units was very professional 1st Class. I beleave that after many visits to A and E, A.M.U. and Out Patients depts, I have to say that St Richards Hospital still maintains the highest level of care, and all staff have a superb attitude whilst working in a high stress environment.
