"Nurse Practitioner in A&E was superb"

About: William Harvey Hospital (Ashford)

Anything else?

After a nasty fall on a country walk I went to A&E on Sunday 21 July I was seen quickly and X rayed and treated well after fainting from a combination of pain and a totally airless and stifling room on one of the hottest days of the year. I would like to commend the professionalism of all the nursing staff, most especially the nurse practitioner who was back on duty after a only a few hours rest but whose diagnosis, determination to seek advice from senior doctors and immaculate, detailed and thorough notes eased my transfer to my local hospital. The department was extremely busy and the working conditions for staff are most unsatisfactory. It's amazing how they maintain their calm and quality of care in these conditions.

Thank you very much for providing us with feedback. We are very proud of our staff who provide efficient care with kindness and compassion. I am glad you were happy with the service provided and I will ensure that staff are aware.

I note your observation of the space available for the minor injury department. We agree, as the department has become much busier the environment is not satisfactory. As part of our clinical strategy for the Emergency Department we have developed plans with staff to re-design the whole department to aid the flow of patient through. The business case for investment is due to be reviewed later this year.

I do hope you are recovering well from your injury.
