"Never again"

About: Chorley & South Ribble Hospital

Anything else?

I went to this hospital to see a consultant. They had lost some of my medical records on the day I visited the consultant. The missing records were somewhere in Preston and not been scanned and were still on paper record, but no one knew where. The consultant had a bad attitude. When they did manage to find some electronic records they were incorrect. I was prescribed some treatment by the consultant and sent to the wrong department. I saw a doctor at the same hospital about the same problem a few months later. The doctor was a colleague of the consultant I saw earlier. The doctor asked me who had prescribed the treatment I had received. The consultant had prescribed it, the doctors colleague in the same department. Do they read or record medical records at that place?. Obviously not as medical records do not seem to be their strong point. The day of the operation I arrived and was greeted by the nurse in charge (matron type) who was totally miserable and very bossy. She flung a pair of surgical stockings in the cubicle and told me to put them on. I could not even get them on because I could not bend down due to my injury, but eventually managed of a fashion and the socks were not on proper as these are bad enough to get on at best of times, they are skin tight. I did not feel I better ask as some of the staff seemed unapproachable. They then told me they had no record of my pre-operation assessment and asked me if I had attended. I did attend a month earlier but they had no record. Record keeping is terrible in that place. I had my operation and woke up feeling groggy. A consultant visited me and then a physiotherapist very quickly, I did not remember a thing they said as I was groggy from the anaesthetic. Rawcliffe ward seemed like a motorway self service station were you had to help yourself. They told me to get dressed I could not bend down and struggled with socks, no assistance was offered or given. To be fair they seemed short staffed and the only nurse I saw tried her best as she seemed run off her feet. I was then told to phone a relative with another matron type, as I was being discharged. My phone was in my bag on the floor and somehow I had to get it. I could not bend down there was no assistance and this matron who had just started her shift was surly. When leaving I had to ask what medication I should take. They should tell me, they did not I had to ask!. I was sick in the lift on the way out. It was like throwing out time they could not wait to get rid and shut the doors. It was rushed mess. I have read many good reviews and that is fine but I feel I should tell my experience too. It was an awful experience and I wish it had been a better but it was not. Some of the staff seem arrogant and bossy and it seems like a culture in that hospital. Care and compassion they are excellent not. It was a shambles. Sorry but never again.
