"Too many patients are being booked into this clinic for too few doctors"

About: East Surrey Hospital / Ophthalmology

(as a relative),

My mother's appointment today was 2 hours after the appointment time. She has been several times over recent months and has always had to wait between 2 and 3. 5 hours after the allotted time.

Too many patients are being booked into this clinic for too few doctors. As her carer I have to take unpaid time off from my job every time she has an appointment, and I simply can't afford to keep doing this as I have to take a whole day off because the waiting times are so long.

Dear Frustrated Carer

We are very sorry to hear of the long wait your mother had for her eye appointment today and the impact this had on you. We are aware of the situation and are currently reviewing how we can improve the situation by increasing the number of clinics available, increasing the number of consultants available and by reviewing whether all outpatient appointments are really necessary or could be provided in a different way.

We would very much value your feedback as part of this review and if convenient ask that you contact Anita Vincent, Service Manager, Surgical Division. Tel: 01737 768511 x 6891; email: anita.vincent@sash.nhs.uk

Many thanks,

Fionnula
