About: Solihull Hospital

Anything else?

I was recently admitted to Solihull Hospital for a total knee op replacement. The pre op was fine , quick and efficient, The op was new to me having previously had the same op 3 years ago. I had an epidural anaesthetic, this time . recovery was quick without the groginess of a general. From there it was hit and miss . The op was done early Thursday morning and I saw the consultant next day, , a quick cursory look and I was left in the hands of the nurses which appeared to be a couple of SRN's and the rest 1st year students. There was a complication with the aftermath of the op and although the nurses did their best to inform me of what was happening they of course were restricted. I was moved to another two wards after the op the last being a holding surgical / medical ward, with no radio/ tv or phone facilities. The food was some of the worst i have tasted / seen in all my hospital visits and there hve beed quite a few. Meals were ordered by the patient 10 mins before service and if they ran out, tough you got what was left. Out of the 6 main meals I had the salad was the only thing I could call palatable or even looked like a meal. The roast meals were bland , sliced beef reheated in water with a pile of something called veg. On one night there was one choice only Pasta bolognaise. it looked and I apologise for the wording like a pile of horse dung . It wasnt eaten. Breakfast was slightly better with warmish toast but cheap cereals.Hot drinks were dispensed from a machine that looked as though it came from the ark, and at time tasted so stale it wasnt worth drinking.Discharge takes too long with everybody appearing to get involved but achieving nothing. It too nearly 6 hrs to actually get away from the hospital. Whilst in the hospital I wasnt once given the choice to have my leg cleaned after the op and I arrived home with a yellow leg, which luckily my other half cleaned up. I am upset by this . I have always opted for Solihull Hospital , bt found my recent visit as a patient severely dented my high regrd for the hospital and its facilities.
