About: Bassetlaw Hospital

Anything else?

My son , who has learning difficulties, was a patient in the medical admissons ward for three nights, 17th, 18th, 19th July. During that time I was unable to check on his condition because the telephone was never answered. No matter how many times I rang, regardless of time of day, and holding on until the cut off, the phone was never answered. The only way to obtain information was to make a 50 minute return journey to the hospital.

Response from Bassetlaw Hospital

Please accept our sincere apologies for this. The ward staff do try to ensure that phones are answered promptly and that relatives can get through but obviously that didn't happen in this case. We appreciate that this must have been especially frustrating as it happened more than once and it's obviously not acceptable that you felt you could only get information by travelling to the hospital. We have raised this with the ward in question and asked them to look at options for times when staff are very busy with clinical duties and unable to get to the phone.
