I was taken to Leighton hospital last October with pneumonia, I was dealt with very swiftly in A and E, the staff were great and I was admitted to the surgical assessment ward as they wanted to do a scan of my gall bladder, as I was in a lot of pain. I could not believe my luck! The ward was clean, airy and the staff were the best I have ever experienced, I was given brilliant care. Then I was moved down to the depths of the hospital to the Repository ward, Oh my goodness! I could not believe the differences between the 2 wards, The care on the repository ward was appalling considering most of the patients were gravely ill and fighting to breathe, There was a lady suffering from dreadful dementia, who was threatening to pull her cathata out all the time and attempting to get out of bed, it was left to me to coax her back into bed, or to try and get a nurse to assist her, she shouted all night, I was exhausted. I timed the gaps between nurses visits, and the longest was nearly 4 hours! There was no ventilation at all, a nurse was distributing food, then stopping to help someone on a commode before continuing to serve food, gross! Needless to say I ate nothing during my stay here! It was all in all a horrendous experience, I refused to stay and managed to get myself discharged after fits of hysterics at the nurses station. When arriving the next day to pick up my medication, an old lady wondered up to ask the nurses when she would be getting her medication as it was 4 pm and she had not been given any of the tablets she was supposed to have 3 times a day. I rest my case.
