"bone marrow /lymphocyte donation beaston cancer unit gartnavel hospital glasgow "

About: Beatson West of Scotland Cancer Centre Scottish National Blood Transfusion Service

(as the patient),

Having been in the clinical apheresis unit now three times in the last six months, first for sibling testing, secondly for bone marrow donation and most recent my third visit was yesterday for lymphocyte donation, l must congratulate everyone involved in this fantastic facility

Living over 200 miles away was not an issue as to appointment scheduling, indeed, initially, staff liaised with local services to enable me to do some of the testing this end of the country so as not to disrupt my life too much, visits were all precisely timed and l was kept informed at all stages. of what was expected of me in order to be a donor. The consultant involved answered all my queries promptly by return e-mail or phone call and l was made to feel 'included ' at all stages of the process.

On visiting the unit apprehensively on the first occasion l was immediately put at ease nothing was too much trouble for this dedicated staff, no question l had was ever dismissed all issued were spelt out to me in lay-mans terms enabling me to make informed choices.

The secretary was always on hand to confirm local transport issues and went a step beyond duty to make my getting to the hospital easy since l had not been in Glasgow for thirty years.

Every one of the totally dedicated nurses were highly efficient at their jobs each were wonderfully skilled and were friendly, kindly and just lovely people. Thank you Joy, Lisa, Senga, Lorna and Sharron you all deserve a medal.

I was even contacted today by staff to ensure of my safe arrival home.

In conclusion NHS is often given a bad press but these above mentioned individuals are a credit to their profession. Lets all give credit were credit is due.

Response from Paul Cannon, Head of Administration, Acute Services Division, Greater Glasgow & Clyde NHS

Very many thanks for your very positive feedback, I will ensure that this is sent to the General Manager responsible for that service and hopefully he will be able to pinpoint the members of staff identified by first name in your posting.

I want to thank you for taking the time and trouble to write with this feedback, it means a great deal to staff to read these comments and they will, I am sure, be thrilled to read your very kind remarks.

Best wishes.
