"I was referred to The Rapid Access ..."

About: Russells Hall Hospital

(as the patient),

What I liked:

I was referred to The Rapid Access Breast Clinic by my G.P.& received an appointment to be seen within 3 weeks. The staff in the Ultrasound dept were wonderful, friendly and very supportive. I was diagnosed with early breast cancer by Mrs Carmichaels and had a lumpectomy&Sentinal Node biopsy within weeks. I consider I was extremely fortunate to be referred to Mrs. Carmichaels. She was so friendly, kind and calming but also forthright which was excellent. The Sentinal node biopsy treatment is still relatively new and worked for me, needing just a day case visit. All the Breast Care team are to be congratulated on their approach and support. Also the staff on the Day care ward too. I would highly recommend Mrs Carmichaels&her team to anyone in similar circumstances to me.

What could be improved? One area I would have felt happier with is when I needed radioactive dye injected into my breast ready for surgery. I was in my dressing gown, sitting with patients from outside and once I had the dye injected was asked to massage my breast to disperse it. The problem being that I had to sit in a busy waiting room alongside everyone else. Not very inspiring and potentially embarassing!!!
