I attended A&E here last week with abdominal pains. I am 11 weeks pregnant. Blood tests were taken and I was told to provide a urine sample. This was never collected from me. The doctor later asked us when I did my pregnancy test and questioned my partner further when he told her the answers. We were told I wasn't pregnant and because I had had no symptoms of a miscarriage I had possibly had faulty pregnancy tests (i had taken 4). I explained that i had had a midwife appointment with bloods taken at week 8- no one had contacted me to say i wasn't pregnant. I had also been suffering with morning sickness- to which i was told by the doctor was 'probably due to acid in the stomach'. We both felt awful, we knew we were pregnant and the news to us meant we had lost our baby. I was put on a saline drip to help with the pain. My husband knew it didn't make sense and decided to retrieve the two tests the doctor had placed in the bin. We had assumed the tests were blood tests but on further inspection they were urine tests! We explained to the doctor that my urine sample had not been collected and with hardly an apology, the doctor investigated and found that someone else's urine had been used. Rather than apologise, blame was put on the nurse. I queried their processes because the bottle i used had my name and address on it so surely the incorrect sample used had someone else's name on it? Well i was told it was not their fault because the sample used had my name on it too?! Disappointing response and one i'm not sure i believe. Someone else provided a sample into a container which had someone else's name on? I just wanted an apology. I was heartbroken - i had been told that I was not pregnant, i had thought I had lost the baby.
