I gave birth to my son in October 2011. I didn't know this forum was here or I would have posted sooner.
I just wanted to say that while the whole experience was...well...labouring...the staff and care I received were fantastic. My husband and I were made to feel incredibly at ease and at no time was there any indication that we were not the most important people in the world at that particular time.
I had three different midwives as my labour was quite prolonged, but each and every one was great - they made me feel at ease, helped me to control my pain in a way that we had discussed and were completely supportive to both myself and my husband.
When our son finally decided to make a move for the outside world, I had a fantastic woman help me to concentrate on what I was doing and who 'took charge'. It was just what I needed at that time and I know that the whole experience would have been quite different if it wasn't for the wonderful people.
After the birth we were not rushed out of our room or pushed to go home, in fact, I was told that they would recommend staying in over night if I wanted to. The support I got for my health, my sons health and breastfeeding/aftercare was second to none.
I can't wait to have another baby and I know that I will have no worries at all about the care I will receive.
I never got round to thanking the staff directly, but I hope that this will somehow get back to them.
To anyone about to embark on the journey...you are in the hands of some of the kindest, most professional yet warm and caring people you will ever meet.
