"Poor level of patient care"

About: Royal Preston Hospital / Neurology

(as the patient),

I see a consultant on a 12 weekly basis for a neurological condition. The time spent in consultation has been decreasing rapidly of late. At my last appointment, I set my stopwatch going as I walked into the consulting room. The consultant asked how I had been, held his hand up to me to stop me answering the question he had asked, walked round the back of my chair, administered 3 injections into my neck and asked the clinic nurse to show the next patient in. The whole episode took 28 seconds.

As an NHS employee, I understand that clinic time is pressured, but my treatment was unacceptable and the lack of care, respect and common humanity and decency shown was appalling.

Did I complain? No. I have a fear that it would affect my future treatment even further and as anyone working within the NHS will tell you, to complain is to commit career suicide.
