"Lack of care and treatment"

About: Bedford Hospital South Wing / Accident and emergency

(as the patient),

I was admitted to Bedford a & e recently, the ambulance crew are always understanding and treat you with respect.

I suffer from severe depression and bpd and had attempted to end my life. After waiting numerous hours to be seen, once again I was treated as though I was invisible. Was taken to a ward in AAU and had fluids for 24hours. I felt very ignored and just because I had no physical injuries was more or less left I was at my lowest and not one person came to sit and comfort me. In my opinion it was a disgrace. I had to ask numerous times for my usual medication which they knew nothing about and to talk to someone

In the crisis team I finally spoke to a very nice doctor before I was discharged.

The porters and the food team were great, shame about the lack of healthy food though.

I never want to go to Bedford hospital again.

With regard to the food at Bedford Hospital, I am sorry that you did feel that it was up to scratch. We have largely had very positive reviews of our food, for its taste, range of options, and its nutritional value.

Our catering team have won a five-star rating in Bedford Borough Council’s Food Hygiene Rating Scheme, and are also part of Bedford Borough's Gold Heartbeat Awards. The department is also part of the government’s Sustainable Futures Practice, as well as the Hospital Food Leaders Network, and has been chosen by the Department of Health as a best practice case study for improving hospital food.
