"Experience following my emergency admission to John Radcliffe"

About: John Radcliffe Hospital / Accident and emergency

(as the patient),

I was admitted to the John Radcliffe Hospital in July. Over the next five days, I was treated in the Emergency Assessment Unit, the Endoscopy Unit and the Acute General medicine Unit (Ward 7C).

I became aware that the hospital teams were being asked to address three constituencies; unexpected injury and illness (such as mine), scheduled clinics and tests (in Endoscopy Unit) and as a care home and hospice (in Ward 7C). It felt as if demand chronically exceeded the capacity available.

Yet in all my interactions, while ill and mostly unaware or while recovering and conscious, I felt certain that the care I was receiving was both highly professional and compassionate from the medical professionals, the support staff and contract staff. I left the hospital grateful for the care and thankful to those who helped me heal.

This is a very good place with decent hard working people.
