"The ambulance people are very polite and helpful"

About: Great Western Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust

(as a service user),

The hospital arranges for an ambulance to collect me from my house to take me to the hospital whenever I have an appointment. It’s a very good service. They phone me a couple of days ahead to make sure I’m still going. This is very reassuring as I know they will be coming to collect me.

I need to be ready a couple of hours before they are due to collect me, in case they are early – but that’s OK. Getting back home can be more of a problem – can be waiting at the hospital for quite a while for an ambulance to come – a particular problem as I live outside Bristol and there are not many people they can drop off in my direction. It’s not too bad as I can go prepared for the wait.

The ambulance people are very polite and helpful.
