About: North Tyneside General Hospital

Anything else?

My sister was admitted for a uti she was borded on two wards . ward 18 and ward 6 these wards were exceptional they had her walking, showered her regularly and cured her uti. she was then warded on to the rehab ward and things went downhill she wasn't showered for a week and got another uti and became confused the physio took her into the gym and asked her to stand up she refused as she was confused and the physio refused to treat her as she had refused to stand up. She hurt her toe and we asked the staff to look at it they didn't for a week and her toe got worse. she wasn't showered regularly so I took some senset skin cleansing foam in and washed her bottom regularly to stop anymore uti;s. I was disgusted with the care in the rehab ward, I have met other ex-patients who went in walking but came out not walking

Response from North Tyneside General Hospital

Dear Sir / Madam, Firstly, please accept my sincere apologies that your sister has had this poor experience during a stay on one of our wards. Many thanks for getting in touch to raise your concerns - I have just received the notification from NHS Choices about your post on their website and I want to respond immediately. As an organisation we take all efforts to reduce infection and maintain excellent standards for cleanliness extremely seriously - you will understand why I am so concerned to read the details in the care you describe. The standards fall far short of those we would expect for nursing care on our wards and the feedback on the physiotherapy service is also in stark contrast to the comments we usually receive. I am keen to obtain more details and to act immediately to learn why we have failed to provide the quality of care we would expect all our patients to receive. Whilst you remain anonymous this is very difficult for me to do. I would be very grateful if you would contact me directly on annie.laverty@nhct.nhs.uk to allow me to respond to this with the urgency it deserves. Many thanks, Annie Annie Laverty - Director of Patient Experience
