"My young son was recently admitted ..."

About: West Suffolk Hospital

(as a relative),

What I liked

My young son was recently admitted into the children's in West Suffolk Hospital and as we had such a positive experience I wanted to share with others. At times of great stress and worry it was such a comfort to receive such quick and caring service. The ward and staff are all delightful. They seem to all enjoy and do a great job. The staff, in particular, had a extra special way to talk and care for young children - explaining what was happening during examinations etc. The facilities were wonderful, and especially well designed for families who may be visiting with other young children (play area, video library, toys/books etc - everything in good and clean condition). The rooms were modern, well designed and the whole place was very calm and quiet. Within the hospital there were a couple of good canteens with a good choice of competitively priced food and drink . Likewise, the shops in the hospital were well stocked for not only gifts but for essential items you might require during a visit.

The food for my young child in the hospital was very good quality, hot and appealing. I would like to send special thanks to the young nurse who cared for my child, who was lovely and had a wonderful understanding of a family who had twins. Also to the junior doctor who equally had a super manner and rapport with my child whilst talking to him.

Clearly West Suffolk Hospital have a great team of people who at least helped me and my family.

Thank you.

What could be improved

The only minor point is the cost of car parking. Whilst a fee is acceptable, for families who have to remain in the hospital for many hours, the daily hour fee becomes expensive if you stay all day. It would be nice and fair to have an hourly fee for quick visits and maybe a half day/day rate for people who due to illness/long treatments need to remain a longer period.
