"Dangerous and disgusting treatment at East Surrey"

About: East Surrey Hospital / Accident and emergency

(as the patient),

I was admitted to A&E by ambulance following an allergic reaction which was causing shortness of breath and chest pain.

I was left in the waiting area by the bays for over 1.5 hrs without any help.

Then the nurse tried to give me some tablets. When my carer asked what the tablets were, he was told they were pain relief. So I then asked what they were again and it turned out they were an anti histamine and steroid. I had already had a double dose of anti-histamines and I must not take steroids with my pre-existing condition. Thank goodness we both asked what they were before I took them as they could have caused harm.

I asked for pain relief and to see a Dr. This was refused. I was unable to lie back for an ECG to be done due to the pain so the nurse got the Sister. I again requested pain relief, specifically Entenox (as it is effective for me) to be told that I could not have any pain relief unless I did the ECG and even then she could only give me paracetamol (which I am already on). I felt this was a bullying tactic and in my opinion a totally inappropriate way for a Sister to behave. Pain relief and to speak to a Dr again was requested and again denied.

My Carer and I decided that it would be safer to leave the East Surrey Hospital and seek help elsewhere as they were trying to give me medication I had already taken (which they were informed of) and things which were incorrect for my condition.

We were disgusted by the attitude of the staff and of the lack of care and treatment that was received.
