"Throughout this horrible ordeal all the staff I had contact with at the hospital were fabulous."

About: George Eliot Hospital - Acute Services / Gynaecology George Eliot Hospital - Acute Services / Maternity

(as the patient),

Last week my husband and I attended the George Elliot hospital in Nuneaton for a routine 12 week scan appt for our 2nd baby. As you can imagine we were very excited to see our baby for the first time and know that everything was progressing nicely. Sadly as the sonographer completed the scan it became clear that there were problems and the baby had passed away at about 9 weeks old. This was a massive shock as we had no warnings that anything was wrong.

From that moment I was referred to the early pregnancy assessment unit who took over my immediate care. The staff here were excellent, they treated my husband and I with such kindness and consideration and explained everything fully. They were compassionate to our situation even though this is something they must deal with on a regular basis. I cannot thank them enough for how they looked after us and made this horrible ordeal that little bit easier to cope with.

Following assessment from the early pregnancy assessment unit, I opted to have a surgical procedure to have the baby removed. This was swiftly arranged by the staff at the early pregnancy assessment unit. I was advised to come back the following day to the day procedures unit for this to be completed.

The operation took place and I was admitted to the Tenby day unit and again all the staff here were superb. They let my husband stay with me the whole time and they were very sensitive to the difficult situation we were facing. Throughout this horrible ordeal all the staff I had contact with at the hospital were fabulous. Their compassion and kindness was a real credit to the hospital and to the NHS in general. At a time when everybody seems to be critical of the NHS and its failings, I am happy to report that I have had nothing but a positive experience in the most tragic of circumstances.

Thank you for taking the time to tell us about your positive experience following such a very distressing event. At such times care and compassion is particularly important. Christine Longstaff , Head of Patient Partnership
