Patients not monitored regularly. Lack of fresh stoma and nephrostomy bags especially at night, therefor everything dripping on the floor. Not enough nurses trained to change these. No alcohol wash on a lot of the beds for hand cleaning. Some wards were very dirty

We have introduced care rounds in the emergency care division, which means that staff undertake rounds every 1 – 2 hours to check on patients for their basic needs, such as going to the toilet, being comfortable and having access to drinks. The wards should never run out of nephrostomy bags as these can be obtained from a surgical ward if the ward is short of stock. I am very sorry this was not done. The Trust is actually removing the alcohol gels at the end of the beds and toggle gels are being introduced for all ward staff. Visitors will be able to use the alcohol gel at the basins and also at the entrances of the wards. The wards do have a cleaning audit done each month which is supported by the housekeepers’ environmental audits. Any areas of concern are escalated to the ward managers and also to site services if they fall below a certain standard for action to be taken. I am sorry that you felt the wards were dirty.
