"Eye Unit"

About: Rochdale Infirmary

Anything else?

I went to an appointment at the Eye Unit. After initial testing I was taken to the waiting area and had to wait nearly three hours to be seen. While there were two emergency patients, I felt the wait was excessive. There was no attempt to recognise things were going wrong and the receptionist/nurse seemed to be extremely stressed out by the end. There seemed to be no order to patients seen. Because the Senior Consultant was so far behind, many of his patients were farmed out to the other doctors, and I have to say I was not terribly happy with the doctor that I saw. I found him difficult to understand and he was abrupt and unhelpful. I am a placid patient and feel pretty much the same about eye specialists as most people feel about dentists. No attempt was made to help me with this and when the specialist tried to put drops in my eye he was quite brusque and didn't understand my uneasiness and rather hurt me trying to force my eye open. It also seemed that anyone who went to the receptionist and demanded to know when they were being seen was always rushed through. A number of people who arrived quite some time after me got in before me after they ahd moaned to the receptionist. A couple had ambulances waiting which is fine but others just seemed to bully their way through.. Not a very good experience and one I would not wish to repeat. incidentally when you select department below - there is no option for to select the Eye Unit.
