"Emergency Department Care"

About: Russells Hall Hospital

Anything else?

I recently visited the Emergency department with my daughter - she had burnt her arm quite badly. The first nurse we met seemed a little sharp and asked us to sit and wait even though my daughter was screaming in agony and i had asked for pain relief - however very quickly we were dealt with and both nurses and doctors were very kind and compassionate towards both me and my daughter and even went to the trouble to print off directions to the childrens hospital when we were transferred to there.

Thank you for giving us feedback about the care your daughter received in our Emergency Department. It is important to us that all our patients are met with polite and compassionate staff, so we are disappointed to hear one of our nurses was sharp with you – we would not expect any member of staff to speak to a patient in that manner. Patients arriving at our Emergency Department are triaged and priority is given based on the nature and severity of their illness or injury. This means that most patients will have to wait before they are seen in order for us to be able to offer immediate care to those patients who need it most. It is good to hear that you felt your daughter was well cared for once she had been admitted. We will pass both your concerns and comments on to the team on our Emergency Department who will be keen to take them on board.
