Firstly, I cannot understand why it is called The Tunbridge Wells Hospital. Very very confusing - some uniformed folk are still trying to report to the Kent & Sussex !!! I was in a dark and cheerless room - the wet room was excrutiatingly cold. No shower curtain and nowhere to put any personal belongings - I don't think there was even a hook to hang up clothes. The loo paper was positioned on the left hand side of the lavatory and it was impossible to access the paper, particularly with three separate lines attached to a on a walk-a-bout trolley, I had to remember to get the tissue before sitting down on the loo. Because I had a nasty bout of Diverticulitis, for 2 days, I was forced out of bed almost very 10 minutes to use the lavatory, so it was an absolute nightmare. The actual loo seat was painfully uncomfortable and the wash basin was so very close to the loo, that anyone even slightly overweight would be unable to sit down. I asked a nurse if I could be provided with a commode, but was curtly informed "you've got an en-suite, why would you want a commode?" The most disturbing aspect of my stay was the buzzer system. I would like to meet whoever - (I would pl;ace bets that it was a man) - thought the system was fit for purpose. On one occasion, I was feeling extremely nauseated and pressed the buzzer for a bowl. I counted one hundred and twenty three buzzes! After being ignored for so long and fed up with the sound of the unanswered buzzer, I crawled out of bed and switched it off at the wall. A very pleasant staff nurse explalned that if the room they are in has the door closed, they can't hear the buzzer! What kind of system is that when the very people who it is designed for can't hear the wretched buzzer? I was desperate to get out of the hospital as soon as possible.
