I visited my doctor about heavy periods in April when I had about enough of that nausea feeling, getting sick , painful intercourse and feeling horrible. She referred me for an ultrasound at East Surrey Hospital to check for fibroids. I had this done on 30th March, and they discovered some fibroids, the cause of my heavy bleeding. My GP suggested the coil, but as I could find no positive feedback, I refused. She then referred me to see a Gynaecologist at East Surrey, and I had an appointment on 19th June. After giving him a breakdown of my symptoms, and my concerns about the Mirena Coil, he disregarded what I said and still pushed for me to have it. He said we have to start at the bottom and work our way to the top. He then took another sample from my cervix and sent this away for testing, but never commented on the side effects of the Mirena Coil, when I challenged him about what I read and was told by other woman. They had nothing positive to say about the Mirena Coil and had quite severe side effects, depression and hair loss been one of them. He handed me an FDA-Approved Patient Information sheet about the Mirena Coil and asked me to read it. Now, it clearly states on the leaflet that it is recommended for woman who have had at least one child. I have never been pregnant, nor do I have any children. Why am I been offered the Mirena Coil, when I asked for a Hysterectomy, as I have no plans on having children in the future. I am 42 years old and would prefer to have a Hysterectomy, then be exposed to something that others have found invasive to the female body. The only thing good about it was the turnaround time. They could have been a bit more caring. Why are they not listening to me. It is my body , and I would have liked to be part of the decision making process. It should not be about money, but care. PS. Are you in a position to give me a breakdown/ copy of the statistics? I need to know how many woman have had the coil fitted and kept in for the duration of 5 years. Any information will be greatly appreciated.
