About: The Royal Liverpool University Hospital

Anything else?

Having made a complaint to the NHS several months ago, with no reply whatsoever, I am forced to comment here... - I was taken by ambulance, to the Royal hospital, Liverpool on last New Years Eve; having rang for the ambulance, barely able to speak because of the pain I was in. I knew that something was seriously wrong, but when I asked the ambulance driver who was causally writing-out a form; parked-up outside of my house; politely and courteously - could they please phone through to the hospital to have a doctor on stand-by, their reply to me was "Don't tell me what to do love"... After a scan on arrival at the Royal, I was told by a doctor that if I did not have an operation there and then, I would be dead by the end of the night (I had a burst stomach ulcer and was in intensive care / high dependency unit for weeks) - so, under the circumstances, I don't think my asking for a doctor to be on stand-by was unwarranted! Also, at the time I had a raging temperature and I had on a long t-shirt which came down to my thighs similair to a mini skit, and a dressing gown on.. I was asked by the same ambulance driver why I wasn't dressed properly... - would the fact that I was in severe trauma with a raging temperature not be the answer? - I am usually a person who is so private that I don't even put my underwear on the washing line. I am disgusted, as is everybody else who I have told about it; including other NHS employees.

Thank you for your comment. Your complaint seems to be about the paramedic/ambulance driver, not your experience at the Royal. As a Trust, we run three hospitals, including the Royal, but we do not have any responsibility for ambulances or their staff. Ambulances locally are managed by the North West Ambulance Service. Details about complaining to them are here: http://www.nwas.nhs.uk/ If you have a specific complaint about your care and treatment at the Royal, you can contact our Customer Relations Team, they will be able to help. You can contact them by phoning 0151 706 4903/2265, via complaints@rlbuht.nhs.uk or typetalk 18001 0151 706 4903/2265.
