"My Quadriceps Tendon Repair"

About: Raigmore Hospital / Trauma & orthopaedics

(as the patient),

I am an American in my 70s, who fell and ruptured a quadriceps tendon while walking on Skye. I was taken to Raigmore Hospital, where the tendon was surgically repaired. I was extremely impressed with the quality of the medical care that I received.

My surgery was done by Dr. Kent and my consulting doctor was James Beastall. Both of these individuals were extremely competent. I was especially impressed with the large amount of information provided by these doctors both before and after surgery. Upon returning to the US, my orthopedist told me that my recovery was progressing nicely.

The nurses and the remainder of the staff were knowledgeable, efficient and very friendly as they performed their duties. The patients in this orthopedic ward had a variety of specialized problems and it was impressive to see the staff dealing with these in a caring and professional manner.

Dear US Geezer

Thank you for sharing with us your experience of NHS care in the Highlands. What a great pity to hear that your walking holiday to Skye got upset by a fall. These things are always deeply frustrating and distressing and all the more so when you are far away from home.

But its reassuing to know, that as a visitor who needed our help, you were happy with your care. I have shared your feed-back with colleagues and obviously we are pleased to know you are safe at home and on the mend.

Skye is a beautiful island for walking and hope your accident wont put you off walking or coming back to the Highlands.

Thanks again and all good wishes for a full and speedy recovery and hope you will continue to enjoy the outdoors for many years to come.

Maimie
