Anything else?

I was brought to A&E by ambulance having suffered chest pains and fainting. The two doctors who dealt with me (there was a changeover) were both pleasant and approachable, explaining at all times what was happening and why. Tests were done efficiently and relatively quickly, one test returning positive so that an admission for a scan was necessary. On asking the doctor how long I might have to wait for a scan, I am pleased to say that he gave me an honest answer - 24, 48 maybe even 72 hours. He was right, 60hr, in the end so it prevented me from probably becoming stressed and frustrated at the waiting time. My only criticism is that I was not given my wristband immediately but when I was moved to the Critical Decisions Area and, when I finally looked at it the following morning in Victoria Ward, realised that I was named correctly - male, of Asian origin, instead of a white female. This should be cause for concern. Apart from that my visit to A&E was a positive experience. I was even offered food - a very fresh bap (on a Sunday at about 8pm at night) - when it was overheard that I was hungry.

You are quite right in being concerned about the incorrect information on the wrist band and I am sorry that this error marred what was otherwise a positive expeience. A senior member of the nursing team will be reminding staff about the importance of checking patient identification bands .
