My mother is in her 80s and has been suffering with a painful leg since end of 2012. She has always enjoyed walking for her health and well-being but the pain was too severe for anything but very short walks with a stick.
She first visited her GP in January 2013 and has since then received a pain relieving injection from the GP, onward referral to physiotherapy services in Warren Farm Road clinic, onward referral to a Triage clinic in the Dove Centre, a return to GP who on the advice of the Dove Centre referred her on for a more precise further injection to be delivered by the Orthopaedic dept. in Good Hope Hospital.
She saw two consultants in June one of whom sent her an X ray and the second of whom said she would go on a waiting list for a further X ray and the injection! I accept the need for less invasive approaches being tried first but my mother is now bemused and downhearted by the apparent lack of communication between services resulting in her sitting in GH Hospital for several hours only to be told she is on another waiting list.
She also felt the doctors in GH hospital seemed wholly unsympathetic to the dashing of her expectation of an intervention. I fear her general mood is now suffering as a result of the continuing physical pain and limitation and now the news of yet more months before she receives a recommended intervention.
