"Wonderful to be able to get advice at the weekend"

About: Harmoni / NHS 111

(as the patient),

I’m an 87 year old widow. My children live abroad and I live alone. Sometimes I suffer from excruciating back pain and at its worst I stand up for 2 hours and feel like I’m about to faint.

This happened most recently at the weekend and I found the advice and support I received from 111 wonderful. It’s fantastic that I can ring up and check the combination of medication it is safe for me to take.

The only minor criticism I would have of 111 having used it a couple of times is the fact that they need you to go through the same set of questions again. I think it would be more useful to listen to the patient and find out what they needed help without wasting time unnecessarily.

Maybe they could ask callers if they have used 111 before?

Thank you for your positive comments.

NHS111 manages symptoms in the 'here and now'. If information from previous consultations were used this may result in new symptoms being missed.

If you have used the service before we have sight of your previous encounters which is often very helpful in our assessment of the callers acute symptoms.
