"Incredibly Disorganised"

About: St Helier Hospital

Anything else?

I went to St Helier today to see the Gynaecology department regarding fertility treatment. The receptionist was a bit curt, and they didn't have my GP details correct. She couldn't even find my doctor's name, even though he arranged the referral. The nurse explained that I would have to have tests done before seeing the consultant; I explained that I already had two blood tests and a scan, and my husband had some tests done as well. She didn't have the records. After answering some more questions, the nurse found a few of my test results in her file, but not everything. I now have to go BACK to St Helier on three more occasions for more tests because they don't have all the records. None of this information was communicated prior to the appointment; I received a letter with my appointment date and an automated phone call to confirm my attendance, but I never got to speak to a person regarding my appointment and what to expect. Very frustrating. One positive - the nurse I saw was incredibly lovely and kind and seemed genuinely concerned about my well-being. I'm frustrated that this hospital/department couldn't get organised and has, effectively, wasted my time. Is it really that hard to send medical records across so that staff have the correct information? Also, the corridors looked dreadful with chipped and peeling paint, and there were no hand sanitiser dispensers anywhere on the first floor. I would avoid this hospital if I had the choice.

Response from St Helier Hospital

We are sorry your visit to our hospital was not a happy one and ended in frustration. However, we are pleased you found our nurses warm, friendly and caring and for us, good, compassionate nursing is one of the most important things to get right in our trust. We will ensure your review is shared with the relevant people and that hand sanitisers are within easy access of the first floor. Pippa Hart Director of Nursing
