"Iwas a patient for 3 weeks march ..."

About: Queen's Hospital (Romford)

(as the patient),

What I liked

Iwas a patient for 3 weeks march 2007. My G.P. sent me in with a letter suspecting a clot having spoken to the medics who had a bed for me.I was made to wait to see a nurse in a 3 hour queue, she put me in minors after a further 2 hours after i complained i was takento a bed. The doctor i saw said as it was midnight i could stay the night and go in the morning. i said with no tests cannot use my hand i dont think so. during my 3 week stay i was moved 4 times at 4.30 am and 2.30am (I am 72) once on to a day bed for 3 days. For over 2 weeks they tried to convince me i was another patient of the same name linking all her illness to me. also giving me all her details where she lived what other hospitals she had been to plus all my test were being filed wrongly. The last consultant believed me and was very good i had brain scan ,i had astroke. To this day i am trying to sort out my notes. I feel it is very wrong i know all about this lady even to the number of her house, and she only lives 7 minutes by car from me. this lady is 1 year younger than me with exactly the same name, I am o negative blood group if i had needed blood they could have killed me. I have received an apology from chief executive.

Today my appointment made may for Nov 1st changed to mid march 2008 for my shoulder which is painful. another problem to sort out

What could be improved

not to move patients in the early hours or send patients home at 4.30 am. Junior doctors should not send patients home without a senior confirming from accident and emergency if a serious illness is suspected by G.P.

Patients should be put on the correct ward as soon as possible.
