About: Fife Community Services / Sexual Health

(as a service user),

I phoned Sexual Health Fife yesterday really concerned as I had developed blisters and sores on my genitals. After speaking to someone on the phone, I was left feeling very distressed and unheard until Susan phoned me back today. After we spoke on the phone, she told me I had all the classic symptoms of herpes and squeezed me in for an emergency appointment an hour and a half later, as she knew I was in pain and felt I deserved to be seen asap, as she could tell I was distressed.

I had to drive a little bit further than my local clinic (20 mins rather than 13) but it was totally worth the extra drive! When I got to the clinic I received excellent care and she made me feel so at ease, she chatted me through the entire process and assured me that I didn’t need to worry (I was convinced I was going to die) and gave me antibiotics and numbing gel so I could pee comfortably while the sores heal.

She also arranged for me to get a home testing kit for chlamydia and gonorrhoea delivered next week as I was in too much pain to be tested today, and really wanted to be tested for my peace of mind. Susan also gave me a contact number in case I needed anything until she calls me next weeks with the results.

Thank you so much, Susan! I feel so much better now. Still sore but definitely on the right path!!

Dear Annierose121, thank you for taking the time to tell us about your experience at the Sexual Health clinic. I am sorry to hear that you have had painful symptoms and understand how upsetting and worrying this must have been for you. I am also sorry to hear that your initial call to the service left you feeling distressed and unheard. I would be keen to hear more about what happened in order that we can ensure that this does not happen again therefore if you would be happy to discuss it with me please give me a call on 01592 729275.

I am delighted to hear that Susan was able to offer you a quick appointment for assessment, treatment and information which has helped to put you at ease. I hope that your symptoms settle soon and that your initial experience has not put you off contacting the service in future.

I will be sure to share your feedback with Susan and the rest of the team.

Best wishes,

Kirsty Durham, Sexual Health Senior Charge Nurse
