"I left feeling worse than when I was referred"

About: Leeds and York Partnership NHS Foundation Trust / Adult mental health

(as a service user),

I was rejected from the service due to risk not being high enough, sent back to primary care who could only offer 4 sessions. I think there should be somewhere in the middle between primary and secondary care.

I got referred again, had an assessment where before the assessor had even met me they’d appeared to me to have decided they were going to discharge me.

Also, due to my job (working in healthcare) any time I mentioned risk or how I was truly feeling, my job was bought up and how this may affect my own practice, although I had clearance to be at work from occupational health.

I left feeling worse than when I was referred. I got used to leave appointments feeling awful, and crying for hours after. In the end I gave up with CMHT as they were making me worse. I feel they could do better, I know they are overworked but the lack of compassion I felt is astounding.

It seems I was seen as having a typical personality disorder rather than my distress being listened to. I hate to leave bad reviews incase it is put down to my diagnosis, however, I have also met positive professionals in other services. CMHT exacerbated my problems and made me feel awful. I feel strongly these people need to listen to the patient and what they are expressing rather than seeming to put everything down to a diagnosis which causes harm to the patient. I just need more compassion and care.
