I was admitted to Cameron Hospital in September 2022 for rehabilitation following a second surgery to remove a right sided meningioma brain tumour. The operation was successful although small pieces of tumour were left as they were attached to blood vessels. These are to be removed with radiotherapy in the near future.
I had my original diagnosis in January 2014 and my first surgery was March 2014. The tumour had left me with epilepsy (focal seizures), partial numbness, sensory disturbance amongst other things.
On the day of my second operation, I walked into surgery then woke up with no sensation, control or movement from my hip down on the left side. The decision was made to transfer me to Cameron where I have undergone physiotherapy, occupational therapy, psychology and nursing care.
I have been here for just over 5 weeks and I am now able to walk short distances using elbow crutches. I use a wheelchair for longer distances and a Zimmer frame when I am having a bad day. I am to be discharged in a few days.
