I was admitted to Lincoln Hospital for elective breast reconstruction surgery, following complications after a double mastectomy a few years ago.
The entire breast team are fantastic at Lincoln hospital. mr G, my surgeon put me at ease from our first meeting. I was shown nothing but kindness, support and patience throughout my time. All the surgical staff were fantastic too, and again went above and beyond to make me feel as relaxed and comfortable as possible.
The only negative I experienced was my care once back on the surgical admissions ward.
My pico dressing alarm kept going off, I used the call button late at night to call the nurse for help who just said she had no idea what they were and walked off. I was left alone to Google the issue and fix the alarms myself!
I asked for the bed bars to be lowered so I could use the toilet, I have drains in situ, pico dressings and still had inflatable cuffs in my legs. This was the first time moving after anaesthetic and I was offered no help or support, another patient actually had to help me, I was extremely unsteady on my feet and really struggled.
My oxygen stats were low throughout the night and I kept saying I was in pain, but the nurse just kept telling me off as the oxygen nasal tubes were falling out when i managed to drift off to sleep on a few rare occasions.
This nurse was very unprofessional and uncaring. I also noticed they had extremely long fake nail extensions on, so I was worried regarding hygiene especially after such a big operation.
When the morning staff took over, the care once again could not be faulted and all were friendly, professional and helpful.
