This is a follow up to my previous post about the Colposcopy appointment I had at Royal Cornwall Hospital Gynaecology Dept with Mr S Bishieri. This was arranged on the fast track system due to post menopausal bleeding.
A few days after the colposcopy I received an appointment for a pelvic scan as recommended by Mr Bishieri. This led to a telephone call a day later to arrange an appointment for a morning slot for the Hysteroscopy at Royal Cornwall Gynaecology Dept, the detailed letter confirming the appointment details followed the next day. The speed at which these appointments were made was fantastic, as this was a very worrying time for me.
At the Hysteroscopy appointment I was again treated with such kindness, care and dignity by everyone I encountered. The lady on reception was lovely and helpful explaining to my husband where to wait, how long the appointment would be etc. My appointment was exactly on time, so no waiting around.
The nursing team ( Amanda, Jenney, Michelle and Chris) were outstanding. I felt really safe and respected, they are a really great team, they took their time making sure I was as relaxed as possible. I am an extremely nervous patient, but everything was explained carefully and it was stressed many times that if I needed the procedure to be stopped then they would be guided by me, so I felt very very safe.
All my questions were answered and I did not feel rushed in anyway. I was carefully prepped for the procedure and had gas and air available immediately should I need it. I had taken the recommended painkillers beforehand as explained in the appointment letter, and as it turned out, because the team were so caring, relaxed and good humoured, I didn’t need to use the gas and air and only needed the local anaesthetic that was given at the start of the procedure. Yes the procedure can be a little uncomfortable, but pain was minimal.
Mr Bishieri again treated me with the utmost care, explaining the steps, checking all the time that I was comfortable and not in pain. I know a hysteroscopy is not a very pleasant procedure to have but it really was nowhere near as bad as I had feared and this is all down to the wonderful team that cared for me that day. I really cannot thank them enough. Mr Bishieri and the nursing team really do care for you.
After the procedure I was looked after in the recovery room ( even given biscuits!), my blood pressure and pulse monitored until they were sure that I was recovered enough to be discharged.
I had very little cramping or pain afterwards and even felt well enough to go out for lunch!
I am so grateful for how I was treated at all my appointments, the colposcopy appointment ( with Mr Bishieri but a different but just as superb nursing team), the pelvic scan at Camborne Redruth Hospital and this hystereoscopy appointment. The speed and efficiency with which the appointments have been made is amazing and the communication has been excellent. It has been an anxious time, but by being treated with such respect it has made the whole process so much easier.
