"Excellent care"

About: Royal Hospital for Children (Glasgow) / Acute Receiving Unit (Ward 2c)

(as a service user),

My 3 week old baby was admitted to ward 2c via A&E and CDU where I had presented as I thought he was working hard to breathe.

He ended up with a diagnosis of RSV, bronchiolitis and then a bacterial chest infection.

It was a very scary time for us as a family but the staff nurses in the ward were amazing. My son deteriorated pretty quickly on the Friday and due to there prompt action he received the appropriate treatment preventing him deteriorating further.

Every single member of staff we came across was friendly, knowledgeable and extremely professional and I felt my son was safe in there care. We were in for over a week so had many members of staff look after us. But these guys do not get the appreciation they deserve…

Katie, becca, Lauren, Blair, Nikki, Rosa, Nadine, Cree and Jade the bronchiolotis nurse, you guys are all amazing, thanks for calming a super anxious mum and making sure my baby boy was ok ❤️

Dear warmgw85,

So sorry to hear about your son having to be admitted to our hospital, after attending our Emergency Department, due to difficulty with his breathing, this must have been such a scary time for you and your family especially, as he was only 3 weeks old.

To hear the news that he had RSV bronchiolitis and then hear he has a bacterial chest infection must have been such a worrying a time for you, In addition to this information to then see him deteriorate, requiring treatment to prevent him deteriorating any further, I can only imagine how distressing this must have been for you.

Reading that during your stay of over a week, you were met with staff who were very knowledgeable and professional and you felt your son was in safe care, was amazing to hear, to know that the staff on the wards were able to help calm you at this understandably anxious time was great to hear, as was your appreciation of the staff who looked after you and your son. I will pass on your comments to the team as I am sure they will be very appreciative of them and heartened to hear the support they gave you during your stay in hospital made such a difference to you.

I hope your son continues to recover well from his illness and you can start to look forward to enjoying being a new mum, with your new baby son.

Kind Regards

Mandy
