I was 2 weeks past my due date with no signs of baby coming. I had a textbook, issue-free pregnancy, but developed preeclampsia right at the very end, and was therefore unfortunately admitted to hospital and advised that induction would be safest option. This threw my whole birth plan out of the window, and although I was not expecting it to follow a set plan, it meant the opposite of every single one of my preferences, and so I was upset and really disheartened.
Following triage, however, when I was admitted to the Labour ward and throughout the process of induction and subsequent labour, I was met with various wonderful midwives and medical professionals across a couple of shifts. For the last leg of my labour my midwife, Jennifer, was absolutely fantastic and I wanted to pass on my gratitude for her care and compassion and making me feel so well looked after.
I was so pleased that Jen was able to see my little one be born during her shift. At the end of the shift we found out this was Jen’s first shift as a fully qualified midwife and you would never have known; she was confident and professional and really helped to put me at ease through what was quite a difficult labour.
