"My journey to stability."

About: Community Mental Health / Perinatal & Infant Mental Health Community Nurses (Angus)

(as a service user),

I was referred to the prenatal and infant mental health team when I was about 7 month pregnant with my daughter. I was in a bad episode of depression and I didn’t see much of a way out of it. I was assigned Karen and she helped me more than I care to admit. I didn’t worry about being so open like I did in the past. She helped me get the right doses of medication and helped me realise sometimes I need to put me first for my own sanity.

I also was seen by the psychiatrist Dr.Day who diagnosed me as type 2 Bipolar along with my Borderline Personality Disorder. The diagnosis opened my eyes to everything and it all fell in place. I have never been more mentally stable thanks to them. I knew if I got news I didn’t know how to react or anything, I could call and Karen would help me understand it all. She helped advocate my mental illnesses in important social work meetings. I was never able to properly advocate that. I can now do that a little better. I have never been so mentally stable. I can’t thank this team enough.

Thank you for taking the time to give such positive feedback about the care you received from members of the Perinatal & Infant Mental Health Team. Beth Gow, Team Lead, has had some technical difficulties and apologises sincerely for not responding sooner. Your comments have been passed on to Karen and Dr Day, and shared with our wider team. We are all so appreciative that you took the time to write about your experience with our service and that you felt able to share this with others. It is lovely to hear that you are feeling better and we wish you well for the future.
