"Disheartened and frustrated"

About: CAMHS (Outpatient Services) / CAMHS Outpatient Team (Dundee)

(as a parent/guardian),

Left feeling disheartened and frustrated. After months of waiting for an apt with CAMHS Dundee, my child was eventually reviewed. Was then told that treatment, in the form of psychological support is likely not to be available for a further 3-6 months.

Why on the apt letter, and enclosed booklet provided, does it not clearly outline that this initial apt does not mean the start of potential treatment. I feel it would be most helpful for families to know this, to ensure they don’t leave feeling frustrated and extremely disappointed.

Communication is key!

Dear @Qwerty09876

Thank you for taking the time to feedback to us in CAMHS Outpatient. I am sorry to hear that you feel disheartened and frustrated regarding wait time following your child's initial treatment appointment. As a service we take on board your comments and we will review the wording of information within the letter that is sent to children, young people and their families. This review will ensure a better reflection that for some specific treatments, following initial appointment, there may be longer waits. Whilst we aim to reduce all waits for appointment, we require to ensure this process is as efficient and possible. For areas where there are longer waits, we are committed to reducing internal waits for psychological therapies.

Feedback is important to us within the service, so I wish to thank you again for highlighting your concern and we take on board your comments.

Best wishes

Sarra Kettles
