"Mastectomy"

About: Aberdeen Royal Infirmary / Breast Services

(as the patient),

This is story of wonderful care at the Breast Clinic at Aberdeen Royal Infirmary, in particular from Miss Mondani the surgeon, and Gail the Macmillan Support Nurse.

I reported a lump in my breast to my GP in late July 2022. Following an immediate referral I was seen at the Breast Clinic for a mammogram and biopsies just 8 days later. Following two further scans I had a mastectomy at the end of August.

Since then I have had several follow up visits to check my progress, for draining the wound a further check-up scan with Gail and Miss Mondani present at different times.

Contrary to what you hear in the national press the treatment I have received has been speedy and the care quite exemplary. Gail has been an outstanding and assuring source of kindness, skill and co-ordination (either calling or always available on the phone), and Miss Mondani is full of wise follow-up advice and counsel. Both of them gave me the time to talk - never rushed and always ready to listen.

I still have a continuing journey of treatment and for that will be seeing an oncologist in November. Thank you all for your professional and loving care.
