"Several weeks with no biopsy"

About: Good Hope Hospital / Breast surgery Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham / Breast surgery

(as the patient),

I had a mammogram... in fact I have been sent letters telling me I have a tumour in one of my breasts... but it's been several weeks with no biopsy. A CT scan was organised which was wrong, they ordered this incorrectly.  I have now been informed that my core biopsy and vacuum biopsy will take some time as the machine is currently down. I may have lost weeks of treatment and have had weeks worrying that I have cancer.  The staff are great...cant argue with that.  But I have been told I'm at the top of the list. So scared 😱

Dear Carr

Thank you for taking the time to provide feedback about the Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham. We are really sorry to hear that your experience with our breast team has not been a positive one and that you are awaiting several biopsy scans.

We would strongly suggest that you make contact with the Patient Advice and Liaison Service (PALS) to provide your details and an explanation of your current concerns. PALS are here to help and can be contacted by phone 0121 424 0808, by email PALS@uhb.nhs.uk or by contact form at https://www.uhb.nhs.uk/forms/contact-complaint-concern

Best wishes

Update posted by Carr (the patient)

I couldn't believe it when I received a call from one of the head breast nurses today in response to my story. They had checked through the system and found me. What a wonderful lady I spoke to who has assured me they will get me into the next available biopsy. Didn't think anyone would read this but thank you so much. I understand when machinery breaks down there is delays but thank you to her for reassuring me the I have not been forgotten. As a said before fabulous staff..just a very overstretched NHS which we are lucky to have. Thank you x
