My mother, who has advanced dementia, recently had a fall, which resulted in her having to attend Monklands A&E Department. Having dementia created a lot of extra distress for my mother. She had ultimately ‘shattered’ her wrist, fallen on her face and caused numerous facial injuries. She was scared, in pain, disorientated and distressed.
The staff that dealt with my mum could not have been any more accommodating of my mum's condition, whilst trying to treat her injuries. Our nurses Monica and then Adam, who took over from Monica, our medical staff Stef and Mathew were more than we could have hoped for. Lesley and the radiography team were so patient and understanding.
The A&E department was full to the brim with patients waiting in the waiting area and in corridors in chairs and on trolleys. Despite the pressure on the staff treating my mum, they remained professional and compassionate and led me, my sister and my father through a very difficult experience with courtesy and consideration.
Thank you to all of you, but especially the names mentioned above. Although me, my sister and my father were all in shock, we felt very cared for. Your communication was so helpful for our understanding of the processes happening around us.
